Description |
Shop Manager East Grinstead £7,540 pa (18 hrs per week, open-ended contract)
There’s only one real difference between Oxfam and every other retailer on the high street. Our motive. The money we make helps to fund our emergency relief, advocacy and development work in some of the world’s poorest countries. So when it comes to attracting customers, we’re as competitive and creative as any other brand. Good news for someone with your retail ambitions. The question is, what motivates you?
Be challenged We don’t make decisions about visual displays and staff rotas at head office. That’s because if you’re in charge of one of our shops, we trust you to run it your way. Yes, it’s a big responsibility. After all, we’re as commercially focused as any other retailer. But we also believe that the best person to make Oxfam a focal point for the community is someone from the community. So whether you’re chatting with customers, motivating your team or setting prices, you’ll take a hands-on approach to running your shop and making it a success.
Be yourself You can’t resist a challenge. You already have management experience and a background in retail, but now you’re looking to put some of your other talents to the test. Like your creative sensibility and financial management skills. Perfect. All we need to see now is confidence, enthusiasm and the ability to put yourself in your customer’s shoes. Determined to beat injustice, your drive will come from knowing that every sale you make, no matter how small, is enough to make a difference.
Be Oxfam If you still think of Oxfam as the little old charity shop on your high street, it’s time to take another look. We’re the largest charity retailer in the UK, the largest second-hand bookshop in Europe and a brand that’s as commercially astute as any other retailer. We have to be. The profit we make doesn’t line any corporate pockets. It saves lives. And to fight poverty and injustice in some of the world’s poorest countries, we have to fight for business here first.
