Job Description:

1. To help with the delivery and development of WAYC’s work in order to achieve its aims. This will be done in close collaboration with the Youth Access Co-ordinator and part time staff and any volunteers.
2. To establish relationships and a style of working that will enable the young people to:
- Find out about them and realise their abilities and potential.
- Develop and maintain relationships with others.
- Identify, understand, confront and challenge attitudes, behaviour and practices which discriminate against any individual or group based on race, gender, disability, economic circumstances, belief or sexuality.
- Raise and explore issues relevant to them,
- Experience new challenges in a supportive and comfortable environment
- Recognise the social, political and legal structures which affect their lives and examine strategies in order to challenge and in turn affect or change those structures.
- To help to monitor and evaluate the assigned projects with young people, Youth Access Project Staff and the WAYC Management Team and Board of Trustees.
3. To help market and deliver a programme of activities including personal development courses, Youth Achievement Awards, First Gear courses, training and issue based sessions for youth groups and others.
4. To help to deliver NVQ training to part time youth workers. (if JNC qualified)
5. To help maintain a ‘Kite Mark’ status for all youth groups implementing and adhering to comprehensive policies including Child Protection, Volunteers, Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities.
6. To help run the evening youth club held at the Westbury Centre twice a week.
7. To help to establish new youth clubs as requested and work with newly affiliated groups.
8. To support, advise and guide adults working with young people, not only on the day to day difficulties and problems which they face, but also on the ever-increasing list of regulations (Health and Safety, Charity Commissioners, Food Hygiene, Outdoor Pursuits, Financial Control, Licenses).
9. To act as Moderator for the Youth Achievement Award and to support existing Youth Achievement Award groups. Training will be given for this.
10. To promote the participation of young people in the activities of WAYC and other organisations.
11. To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of WAYC’s services to member organisations, including:
a) The maintenance of the existing provision for programme enhancement.
b) Researching and developing new projects and activities.
c) Preparing, presenting and delivering relevant training opportunities.
12. To take a full part in the Staff Development programme offered by WAYC. You will attend training days and conferences relevant to the work of WAYC. Trainee workers will undertake an NVQ level 2 or 3 in youth work and then be put through a college course to gain their JNC in youth work. Qualified JNC workers will undertake the A1 Assessor training and help run NVQ youthworker training sessions (with training).
13. To carry out any other duties as agreed with the Chief Executive that relates to the aims of WAYC.
