Bookshop Manager
Stratford-upon-Avon
£10,463 pa (24 hours per week, open-ended)
People read books to open their minds. We sell them to open a few more. You see, the money we make in our book shops not only helps us fund our emergency relief and development projects. It also helps us raise awareness about the work we do. So for a literary buff like you, this is your chance to discover just how rewarding a book can be.
Be challenged
This is no small business. We’re the largest second-hand book retailer in Europe, which means the trade we do has a major impact on our emergency relief and development work. From first editions to the latest bestsellers, we have a unique and constantly changing selection of books. Your challenge will be to make the most of every retail opportunity. To do that, you’ll need to lead and inspire your team while attracting new customers and creating the sort of environment that people will enjoy spending time in.
Be yourself
You know exactly what it takes to be a good manager. Now you’re looking for the chance to put your entrepreneurial flair and encyclopaedic knowledge of all things literary to the test. You’re just as enthusiastic about fighting poverty as you are about getting people to read, so your drive will come from knowing that every sale you make will make a difference. And with the ability to put yourself in your customer’s shoes, you’ll have the ideas and ambition to build on our success.
Be Oxfam
If you still think of Oxfam as the little old charity shop on your high street, it’s time to take another look. We’re the largest charity retailer in the UK, the largest second-hand bookshop in Europe and a brand that’s as commercially astute as any other retailer. We have to be. The profit we make doesn’t line any corporate pockets. It saves lives. And to fight poverty and injustice in some of the world’s poorest countries, we have to fight for business here first.
